Choosing My WordPress Contribution Team and Project

As part of the WordPress Credits program, I have decided to join the Polyglots team, a global community dedicated to translating and localizing WordPress so that people around the world can use it in their native languages.

Why I chose the Polyglots team

I chose Polyglots because I believe language should never be a barrier to accessing technology. WordPress is used by millions of people worldwide, and making its content available in Spanish helps more users understand, access, and benefit from the platform.

As a Computer Systems Engineering student at Universidad Fidélitas in Costa Rica, I am particularly interested in technology, software development, and open-source projects. Contributing to Polyglots gives me an opportunity to combine these interests with my Spanish language skills.

My contribution project

My contribution project focuses on helping translate and localize WordPress content into Spanish. This includes reviewing translations, improving terminology, checking consistency, and making WordPress resources easier to understand for Spanish-speaking users.

I want my contributions to help improve the overall experience for people who use WordPress in Spanish, particularly those who are learning how to use the platform.

What I hope to learn and accomplish

By the end of the WordPress Credits program, I hope to:

Gain practical experience contributing to a real open-source project.
Understand how the WordPress Polyglots team collaborates internationally.
Improve my communication and collaboration skills.
Learn more about localization workflows, translation standards, and quality assurance.
Make meaningful contributions that benefit the Spanish-speaking WordPress community.

I also see this experience as an opportunity to develop professionally beyond the classroom. Working with an international open-source community will allow me to understand how technology projects are built and maintained through collaboration.
